After 100 years, Ford continues to be a top seller of autos in the United Kingdom. As part of their celebrations, two new fashion icons were asked to produce accessories from a 2012 Ford Focus.
Former Alexander McQueen intern Judy Clark, Scottish designer of the year nominee, created outfits using silk, buckles, and car lights. "My reaction when they approached me was one of delight to be a part of such a unique project as it's very different to what I normally do. I would say that the inspiration for the dress was taken from the Edwardian period and I actually started to design the dress before the car parts arrived."1
Designer Katherine Hawkins decided to take on the necklace challenge. Described as a tribute to classic film 'Metropolis,' Hawkins based her Ford designs on vintage scifi movies.
"When the box of car parts arrived, I didn't really know what to expect, but once I got them spread out to see how they look and sit and how I could work with them, the idea came very quickly and I was able to use really cool metals, plastics and rubbery bits!"2
